I will explain the construction of a bi-invariant metric on the universal cover of the contactomorphism group of any contact manifold, and discuss its relations to other contact rigidity phenomena such as the contact non-squeezing theorem, orderability of contact manifolds, and the existence of translated points for contactomorphisms.
